All Day Preschool Our Three year olds enjoy a Whole Language based classroom with an emphasis on academic and social skills, including phonetic instruction. Cognitive and physical skills are developed through pretending, play imagination games, and role modeling. Our teachers strive to build each individual's confidence in emerging skills by acknowledgement, invitations and by providing children with exciting learning opportunities geared towards their developmental level. Reading, Writing and Language: Whole Language is an approach to teaching whereby children learn reading and writing and language through active interaction in a literature rich environment. Children are immersed ia all sorts of language by using storytelling, shared reading, big books, predictable books, personal scrapbooks, dramatization and creative writing. We also provide a print rich environment for the children and enable them to "write" as often as possible. We also explore letter sounds, blends and word skills in phonetic activities that the children love! Math and Science: Our classrooms explore basic mathematical skills through hands on "play" with manipulative toys, games and math tools. We also employ Whole Math and Math Their Way practices which support the creation of learning opportunities versus rote memorization of facts. Science is strictly "Hands On!" and follows the steps of the scientific method. Children will investigate a variety of scientific principles and document their investigations in Science Journals which are sent home periodically throughout the year. Other Exciting Aspects of our Program: Our highly social preschoolers get plenty of opportunities to develop emerging skills such as teamwork, responsibility and sharing. At this stage we begin to focus on leadership skills and independence as well as self esteem through community involvement. We also explore Geography, Music, Drama and Spanish in all of our classrooms. Children also participate in Fitness Club, TV Studio and Martial Arts as part of our regular weekly activities.
