Music Program Here at Reston Day School, we believe that music is an important part of a student's life. Music classes are part of the curriculum and allow children to discover an appreciation for all areas of music including composition, instruments, voice, musical masters and more. In addition to weekly classes, we offer private and group instruction for those who are interested. These classes include Private Piano Lessons, Percussion and Singing. During the year, students are invited to participate in recitals, performances and our end of the year musical. We also invite a variety of local musicians to visit the school and share their talents and stories with the students. Parent University Oxford Art Program Artists thrive at Reston Day School in a creative frenzy of learning and experimentation. The Parent University Oxford Art Program introduces students to a variety of mediums, techniques and tools. During weekly classes students may experience painting like the masters, learn about a new artistic technique in the modern world, or discuss the historical significance of a style of art. One highlight of our program includes visiting "real" art at places like the National Portrait Gallery, GRACE art in Reston, and local galleries and studios. During the year, our student artists participate in many "showings" at local venues, and artistic competitions. Our biggest show is our evening of Art, Chocolate and Cheese, where all students are invited to submit artwork that is displayed for visitors, and we eat chocolate and cheeses from around the world. The important mission of the Parent University Oxford Art Program is to increase students' awareness of the fabulous benefits of creativity and participation in the artistic world. Everyone is an artist, as students learn by exploring movie makers, newspaper editors and even gardeners, professions that may not seem imbedded with artistic traits, but most certainly are! We also employ many Parent University Power Skills in our art classes, like Perseverance, Acknowledgement, and Respect. Sample of Miniatures
